This week I finally was able to get to one of those projects that has been on my to do list for literal months.

Yup, that's right. Making cloth pads.

I've been using cloth pads for about a year now and I got a friend into it recently. She's asked me to make her some and I figured, well, I could make some more for myself and le waifu while I'm at it. I'm not all that great at sewing and as you can see some of my stitching is wonky but it's a fun project nonetheless.

Now some people might cringe and say "Hard pass on that, man"

To which I say, fair enough. It's not something for everyone. Some people won't want to take the extra time to wash their pads and whatnot. For the sake of convenience I'd recommend them turning to other eco-friendly menstrual methods. But for me it works!

I started using cloth pads for a number of reasons. It's less waste and eco-friendly, more comfortable to wear and no 'diaper' rash plastic pads give you, no chemicals, super cute prints and patterns so there are plenty of options, you can customize it to the length, size, thickness you need so its a perfect fit. And lastly some people have experienced that it has helped them with their cramping pain. Maybe it's just the fact that it is more comfortable but as a woman with PCOS, I will jump any chance for a less painful period, even if it's just a little.

I'm using a free pattern I got from Luna Wolf. You can check those out here.

Also, Versodile has a plethora of free patterns if those aren't to your liking.
And there's also these.
You can also just literally google 'free cloth pad patterns' and you'll find an endless supply as well as multiple Youtube tutorials, FB groups and vendors on Etsy selling their own already made pads if you don't fancy sewing them yourself.
I like Mama Macrabre.
You can opt for snaps or use hook and eyes, buttons or sew on Velcro if that's more your speed.
Really, the possibilities are endless.

My favorite perk about cloth pads is that it is really cost friendly. I spend about $15 to make enough pads to last me through my cycle, about 10. I can throw them in to wash with my towels and ta-da! Ready to use again. Compare that to the average $6-$9 dollars for a box of disposable pads bought regularly through the year! I use cotton flannel mainly for both the core and topper and its really cheap at Joann's, about $3 for a yard on sale, less if you've got a good coupon. I've been wanting to try minky however and see how that works for me but the material choices are also endless. The most expensive part of the pad is going to be the PUL material, which is a waterproof  backing you put on it. Unfortunately, I can only find it locally at Hobby Lobby and it's about $10 for a yard but the 40% off coupon almost makes up for the fact that I'm giving them my money.

Almost.

Other things this week:

- Finished Good Omens. Definitely recommend. I loved the book when I read it back in college.

- Also started the second season of Black Clover, which is an anime if anyone is into that.
- Made delicious pizza with waifu from scratch. (She's getting so much better in the kitchen! I'm so proud of her.)
- Found out Halloween towns were a thing, and now I want to make one.
- Inadvertently passed by a pumpkin spice candle at the store and now I am crying because its not fall yet.
-Sanrio event going on in Animal Crossing Pocket Camp!
-Summer games event going on in Overwatch.

Hope you had a great week!
